WINE IN PUGLIA
Famous Vineyards You Can Visit
If you love Italian fruit-forward, full-bodied, red wine then a tour of Puglia’s wine-makers and vineyards will be a real treat. The region has focused on making great red wines with local grapes like Negroamaro, Primitivo and Bombino Nero, which all make for delicious drinking.
Puglia is Italy’s second largest wine producer with a long-held reputation as a prolific source of (mostly red) wine. The region has a long history of co-operative winemaking, which in recent years has been instrumental in moving towards premium wines.
Side note: Puglia is also responsible for almost half of the country’s total olive-oil production.

Wines You Should Try
All within the same region as the villa are producers of four DOCG wines, the Italian premium wine classification and 29 DOC, wines of notable quality - more than any other region in the south. The area also boasts six IGTs that produce increasing quantities of quality wines that are acknowledged internationally for representing good value.
Puglia has a formidable array of natural tools to help encourage prolific vine growth. The hot Mediterranean climate, persistent sunshine and occasional sea breezes make for a near-perfect environment for vineyards and wine making and holiday – a great combination

Primitvo
Privitvo is the same grape as California Zinfandel. The name means “early ripening” in old Italian, a name true to its typically early harvest in August.
The intense aromatics have garnered Primitivo popularity in modern times.
Wine Profile: Aromas of sour and black cherry as well as raspberry. Taste is jammy black fruit with low acidity and moderate tannin as long as it sees a little barrel time.
Food Pairing: grilled meat and poultry, sausage, red sauce, strong cheeses

Negroamaro
As well as making red wine of great character, many Apulian rosés are typically made from Negroamaro.
Wine Profile: Ruby-Violet in color. Aromas of red cherry, tobacco, and licorice that transition into black pepper, prune, and herbaceous notes with age. Full bodied with soft tannin this wine is best between 3-7 years old but can be had with up to 10 years of age.
